In Between

In Between

We chose the theme of In- Between to reflect the gap that contradictions, hybridity, and intersectionality creates within Irish existence. Contemporary Ireland recognises the importance of centralizing minority communities and the cultural richness of the lived experience of the ‘other’. As a nation, we have engaged in fruitful and oftentimes uncomfortable conversations regarding identity, sexuality, race, and mental health to capture the lived realities shaping modern Ireland. We created this issue of Unapologetic with the urgency of showcasing the power of intersectionality, cultural richness, and the importance of including voices on the fringe of society. These voices provide a nuanced perspective of Irishness that has a multitude of layers that always changes and evolves.
